Somatic Experiencing:

Body-Based Healing & Nervous System Support

Somatic Experiencing is a body-based approach to trauma resolution developed by Dr. Peter Levine. It is grounded in the understanding that trauma is not just held in our memories, but in our nervous system and physiology.

When we experience overwhelm, shock, or threat, the body’s natural survival responses—fight, flight, or freeze—can become incomplete or “stuck.” Rather than being fully processed, this energy remains held in the system, often showing up as anxiety, tension, numbness, or a persistent sense of unease.

Somatic Experiencing gently supports the completion of these survival responses by working with the body’s sensations, impulses, and rhythms. Through a slow and attuned process, we build awareness and capacity, allowing the nervous system to gradually release what has been held without re-traumatization.

This work is not about retelling the story, but about restoring the body’s natural ability to regulate, settle, and return to a felt sense of safety. Over time, this can lead to greater resilience, presence, and a deeper connection to yourself and your environment.

Sessions are guided with care and respect for your pace, creating a space where your system can unfold organically and integrate at the level it is ready for.

What to Expect in a Session

  • We begin by gently arriving in the present moment, allowing space to settle and orient

  • Sessions move at your pace, guided by your nervous system—not forced or rushed

  • Focus is placed on body sensations, felt sense, and subtle internal experiences rather than retelling your story

  • You may be invited to notice areas of tension, ease, breath, or small shifts in your body

  • We work with small amounts of activation at a time, paired with resources that support safety and regulation

  • There is no pressure to share anything you are not ready for

  • You remain in control throughout the entire process

  • The work emphasizes curiosity, awareness, and gentle tracking of your experience

  • Over time, you may notice increased regulation, a sense of settling, and greater connection to your body

  • Each session supports your system in building resilience and restoring a felt sense of safety
